Pentecost after the Quarantine: Semiotic Analysis of Four Homilies

  • Francesco Galofaro

Abstract

The present paper analyses four homilies held on the day of Pentecost following the quarantine of 2020. Each homily provides the daily experience of the faithful, severely challenged during the quarantine, a meaning and a criterion to discern between two distinct futures: euphoric and dysphoric. They will be described as distinct possible worlds. This effect is obtained by proposing an ideological reading that cuts out a coherent path within the contradictory nature of the semantic space.
